Regular Season Round 21: Lethbridge - TWU 72-96
Date: January 18, 2013
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when sixth ranked Spartans (5-8) rolled over 5th ranked Pronghorn (6-7) in Lethbridge, AB 96-72 on Friday. The game without a history. Spartans led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Spartans outrebounded Pronghorn 44-33 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a good game for Mark Perrin who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 6 assists. American point guard Tristan Smith (183-86) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. Five Spartans players scored in double figures. Center Derek Waldner (201) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds and guard Morgan Duce (180) added 20 points in the effort for Pronghorn. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Spartans moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Regina and UNBC. Loser Pronghorn keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Spartans will face Dinos (#5) in Calgary, AB in the next round. Pronghorn will play at home against Cascades in Abbotsford, BC and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
