Regular Season Round 21: Western - Lakehead 80-68

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Thunderwolves (5-7) lost to third ranked Western (7-5) in London 68-80 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Western. Thunderwolves was better in fourth quarter 26-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Thunderwolves to just 7 points in second quarter. Western dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Thunderwolves' 28. It was a good game for guard Laura Dally (180-92) who led her team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 13 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals. Guard Jenny Vaughan (175-90, college: Denver) contributed with 21 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Western players scored in double figures. Guard Carolyn Fragale (168-89) answered with 32 points and 7 rebounds and guard Ayse Kalkan (173-91) added 15 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Thunderwolves. Thunderwolves' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Western maintains third place with 7-5 record having four points less than leader UFV. Thunderwolves lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with seven games lost. Western will face again Thunderwolves (#5) in Thunder Bay in the next round.
