Regular Season Round 22: UBC - Regina 75-65

Date: January 19, 2013
Not a big story in a game in Vancouver, BC where 7th ranked Cougars (5-9) were defeated by first ranked Thunderbirds (12-2) 75-65 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Thunderbirds. Cougars was better in third quarter 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Thunderbirds forced 23 Cougars turnovers and outrebounded them 45-27 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. American forward Brylle Kamen (201, college: San Jose St.) had a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import guard Doug Plumb (193, college: Minnesota St.) chipped in 15 points during the contest. Four Thunderbirds players scored in double figures. At the losing side forward Paul Gareau (201) responded with 18 points and 6 rebounds and guard Frank Brown (188) scored 14 points. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Thunderbirds have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 12-2 record, which they share with Alberta. Loser Cougars dropped to the fifth place with nine games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
