Regular Season Round 17: La Rochelle - Challans 83-69

Very expected game when 13th ranked Vendee Challans (5-10) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked La Rochelle (9-6) 83-69 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by La Rochelle. Vendee Challans managed to win fourth quarter 14-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. La Rochelle dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Vendee Challans' 30 and made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American forward Jarryd Cole (204-88, college: Iowa) who scored 22 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Jeffrey Dalmat (191-91) chipped in 10 points and 6 rebounds. point guard Samir Mekdad (188-86) produced 19 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and forward Fabien Herard (198-79) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for La Rochelle. Newly promoted La Rochelle maintains sixth place with 9-6 record. Loser Vendee Challans dropped to the twelfth position with ten games lost. They share it with Angers BC 49. La Rochelle will meet higher ranked JA Vichy (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vendee Challans will play against Blois (#8) and hope to secure a win.
