Regular Season Round 14: Orvieto - Taranto 54-71

Very expected game when 9th ranked Orvieto (3-9) lost at home to fourth ranked Taranto (8-3) 71-54 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Taranto. Orvieto managed to win second period 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Orvieto to just 6 points in first quarter. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Taranto made 7 blocks. Lithuanian center Gintare Petronyte (196-89) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. Israeli guard Liron Cohen (173-82) contributed with 19 points and 5 assists for the winners. American center Shamela Hampton (191-87, college: UNLV) replied with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and her fellow American import forward Aishah Sutherland (187-90, college: Kansas, agency: Two Points) added 13 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Orvieto. Taranto have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Parma. Orvieto lost seventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the eighth position with nine games lost. They share it with Pozzuoli. Taranto is looking forward to face Priolo (#7) at home in the next round. Orvieto will play against Umbertide and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
