Not a big story in a game in Rio de Janeiro where 18th ranked Tijuca TC (2-14) was defeated by fifth ranked Pinheiros (11-5) 73-64 on Thursday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Tijuca TC won third quarter 19-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Pinheiros made 9 blocks. The best player for the winners was naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (196-80, college: USF, agency: Interperformances) who scored 22 points and 8 rebounds. American guard Joe Smith (193-77, college: Al.-Huntsville) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 assists. Center Renan Leichtweis (211-89) produced 16 points and 7 rebounds and guard Marcellus Camara (190-88) added 11 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Pinheiros moved-up to fourth place. Loser Tijuca TC stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. Pinheiros will face league's leader Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tijuca TC will play at home against Paulistano (#9) in Sao Paolo.
