The most exciting game of round 17 in the D1 took place in Doha. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 4th placed Al Arabi (10-5) to second ranked Al Sadd (12-3) 89-87 on Friday evening. The former international guard Daoud Mousa (193-82) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 6 assists. American center Michael Southall (210-82, college: La-Lafayette) contributed with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winners. American swingman William Byrd (201-85, college: Ark.-Pine Bluff) answered with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 16 rebounds and 8 blocks (on 13-of-15 shooting from the field) and American-Sierra Leonean guard Abdulai Jalloh (188-86, college: JMU) added 16 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists in the effort for Al Arabi. Five Al Sadd and four Al Arabi players scored in double figures. Al Sadd have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 12-3 record behind leader Al Rayyan. Al Arabi at the other side keeps the fourth position with five games lost. Al Sadd's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Rayyan.
