Rather predictable result in Thunder Bay, ON where second ranked Thunderwolves (9-5) smashed 6th ranked Golden Hawks (4-10) 80-53 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Thunderwolves. Golden Hawks was better in second period 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Golden Hawks to just 6 points in first quarter. They outrebounded Golden Hawks 56-27 including a 20-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Naturalized Egyptian forward Yoosrie Salhia (198-87) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and guard Ben Johnson (-88) chipped in 16 points. At the losing side guard Maxwell Allin (193) responded with 11 points and guard William Coulthard (188) scored 16 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Thunderwolves. They maintain second place with 9-5 record having six points less than leader Cape Breton. Loser Golden Hawks keep the sixth position with ten games lost. Thunderwolves will face again Golden Hawks (#6) in Waterloo, ON in the next round.
