Eleventh-ranked TianJin Steel (10-15) gave a tough game to fifth ranked Shanxi Zhongyu (15-11) in Tianjin on Friday. The visitors from Taiyuan managed to secure only two-point victory 90-88. However their fans expected much easier game. TianJin Steel was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Shanxi Zhongyu forced 19 TianJin Steel turnovers. The best player for the winners was American forward Charles Gaines (201-81, college: S.Mississippi) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 27 rebounds. International forward JiangPeng Duan (197-90) chipped in 22 points and 5 rebounds. Four Shanxi Zhongyu players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American power forward Donnell Harvey (203-80, college: Florida) who recorded a double-double by scoring 27 points and 18 rebounds and forward Nan Zhang (197-81) added 23 points and 8 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) respectively. TianJin Steel's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Shanxi Zhongyu moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Xinjiang FT. TianJin Steel lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the twelfth position with 15 games lost. Shanxi Zhongyu will meet at home league's second-placed Shandong Bulls in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. TianJin Steel will play against Zhejiang Guangsha Lions (#9) in Hangzhou and hope to secure a win.
