Regular Season Round 20: Le Portel - Hyeres-Toulon 85-73
Date: January 25, 2013
Very predictable result when fifth ranked Le Portel (14-6) defeated at home 15th ranked Hyeres-Toulon (7-13) 85-73 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Le Portel. Hyeres-Toulon was better in second period 23-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Le Portel looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Benoit Mangin (198-88) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 assists and Jamaican-American Sherman Gay (201-82, college: Loyola Mary) who added 21 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) during the contest. American swingman Jared Newson (195-84, college: Tenn-Martin, agency: Pro One Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 14 rebounds and point guard Axel Julien (185-92) scored 13 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Le Portel have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Antibes and Chalons-Reims. Loser Hyeres-Toulon dropped to the fourteenth position with 13 games lost. Le Portel will face bottom-ranked Bordeaux (#18) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Hyeres-Toulon will play against Lille Metropole (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
