The most exciting game of round 16 in the WNBL took place in Canberra. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 7th ranked Canberra Capitals (6-14) to fifth ranked Bulleen Boomers (8-13) 72-69 in the game for the sixth place. The guests trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 47-39 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Bulleen Boomers outrebounded Canberra Capitals 44-31 including 30 on the defensive glass. The former international swingman Tess Madgen (180-90) fired 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Swingman Alice Kunek (186-91) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. Bulleen Boomers' coach Tom Maher used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The former international swingman Michelle Cosier (176-82) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds and the former international guard Nicole Hunt (167-88) added 21 points and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Despite that victory Bulleen Boomers went down to sixth position due to points difference. Canberra Capitals at the other side keep the seventh place with 14 games lost. They share the position with Sydney UF. Bulleen Boomers are looking forward to face higher ranked Logan Thunder (#5) in Loganholme in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Canberra Capitals will play at home against Townsville Fire and are hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
