Regular Season Round 24: Lakehead - Laurier 59-71

Everything could happen in Thunder Bay at the game between two tied teams. Both fifth ranked Laurier and one of their biggest challengers Thunderwolves had identical 6-7 record. But Thunderwolves were not able to use a home court advantage and were defeated by the opponent from Waterloo 71-59 on Friday night. The game was mostly controlled by Laurier. Thunderwolves was better in fourth quarter 23-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Laurier dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Thunderwolves' 26. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Kimberley Yeldon (183) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 9 rebounds and guard Lee Anna Osei (157, college: Trinity Valley JC) who added 12 points and 4 assists during the contest. Four Laurier players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was guard Carolyn Fragale (168-89) with 25 points and 7 rebounds and guard Ayse Kalkan (173-91) scored 7 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Laurier (7-7) moved-up to third place, which they share with Western. Loser Thunderwolves dropped to the fifth position with eight games lost. Laurier will face Laurentian (#5) in Greater Sudbury in the next round.
