An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Gwynneville. First ranked New Zealand Breakers faced 4th ranked Wollongong Hawks. Guests from Auckland (17-3) defeated host Wollongong Hawks (8-10) 91-74. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when New Zealand Breakers's pressure prevailed and they won that period 23-8 extending their advantage to 17 points. New Zealand Breakers forced 19 Wollongong Hawks turnovers and outrebounded them 41-26 including a 22-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. New Zealand Breakers players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) who helped to win the game recording 18 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. New Zealand center Alex Pledger (213-87, college: Belm.Abbey) contributed with 8 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Four New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. Dominican guard Adris Deleon (180-84, college: E.Washington) replied with 24 points and 4 steals and the former international forward Oscar Forman (205-82) added 10 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Wollongong Hawks. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. New Zealand Breakers have an impressive nine-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 17-3 record. Wollongong Hawks lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with ten games lost. New Zealand Breakers will play against league's second-placed Perth Wildcats at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
