Not a big story in a game when 18th ranked Tijuca TC (2-15) was outscored by ninth ranked Paulistano (9-8) in Rio de Janeiro 74-52 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Paulistano. Tijuca TC managed to win fourth quarter 21-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Tijuca TC to just 5 points in second quarter. Paulistano dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Tijuca TC's 26. They outrebounded Tijuca TC 33-19 including 24 on the defensive glass. Panamanian point guard Joel Munoz (179-80) notched 12 points and 4 assists to lead the effort and power forward Renato Carbonari (204-87) supported him with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Four Paulistano players scored in double figures. Even 19 points by American swingman Rashaun McLemore (195-86, college: CS Northridge) did not help to save the game for Tijuca TC. Center Renan Leichtweis (211-89) added 8 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Paulistano moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Basquete Cearense. Tijuca TC lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. They share it with Palmeiras. Paulistano will meet Winner/Limeira (#11) on the road in the next round. Tijuca TC will play against Minas (#13) in Belo Horizonte and hope to secure a win.
