Rather predictable result when second ranked Toyota Alvark (20-6) won against 4th placed Hitachi Sunrockers (15-11) in Tokyo 75-68 on Saturday. Toyota Alvark outrebounded Hitachi Sunrockers 41-30 including 18 on the offensive glass. Quite impressive performance for international power forward Kosuke Takeuchi (206-85) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. The former international guard Keijuro Matsui (188-85, college: Columbia) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Toyota Alvark's coach Don Beck used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Daisuke Kobayashi (188-87) answered with 22 points and American power forward Jamar Smith (206-80, college: Maryland) added 16 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Hitachi Sunrockers. Defending champion maintains second place with 20-6 record behind leader Aishin SH. Loser Hitachi Sunrockers dropped to the third position with 11 games lost. Toyota Alvark will face bottom-ranked Hokkaido L. (#8) in Saporro in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Hitachi Sunrockers will play at home against Toshiba Thunders (#5) in Kanagawa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
