Regular Season Round 16: Tigers - 36ers 87-80

Date: January 27, 2013
There was no surprise when 7th ranked Adelaide 36ers (6-13) were defeated on the road by fifth ranked Melbourne Tigers (7-10) 87-80. The hosts were already 11 points ahead at halftime and as many as 16 after three quarters before a 30-21 last quarter charge of Adelaide 36ers cut the lead to 87-80 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Adelaide 36ers 40-28 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Adelaide 36ers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by American guard Jonny Flynn (183-89, college: Syracuse) who scored that evening 22 points and 9 assists and the other American import power forward Seth Scott (208-81, college: Portland St.) supported him with 23 points. Four Melbourne Tigers players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds by center Daniel Johnson (212-88, college: Pepperdine) did not help to save the game for Adelaide 36ers. The former international guard Jason Cadee (186-91) added 24 points and 4 assists for lost side. Melbourne Tigers maintains fifth position with 7-10 record. Adelaide 36ers at the other side dropped to the bottom place with 13 games lost. Melbourne Tigers' next round opponent will be Cairns Taipans (#6) at home. Adelaide 36ers will play against Wollongong Hawks in Gwynneville.
