Regular Season Round 13: Hitachi SR - Toyota Alvark 74-65

Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tokyo: Hitachi Sunrockers (#4) and Toyota Alvark (#2). Hitachi Sunrockers (15-11) won against visiting Toyota Alvark (20-6) 74-65. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Toyota Alvark. The hosts trailed by 10 points at the halftime before their 49-30 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Toyota Alvark outrebounded Hitachi Sunrockers 41-29 including a 18-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for international power forward Joji Takeuchi (207-85, agency: N.E.T.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Daisuke Kobayashi (188-87) contributed with 15 points for the winners. Four Hitachi Sunrockers players scored in double figures. American forward Philip Ricci (202-80, college: Oregon St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) added 11 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Toyota Alvark. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Hitachi Sunrockers moved-up to third place, which they share with Panasonic T. Defending champion Toyota Alvark keeps the second position with six games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers will face Toshiba Thunders (#5) in Kanagawa in the next round. Toyota Alvark will play on the road against Hokkaido L. in Saporro.
