Regular Season Round 20: Groningen - Weert 88-67

Date: January 27, 2013
There was no surprise when 8th ranked Weert (8-14) was crushed on the road by third ranked Groningen (16-7) 88-67. The game was mostly controlled by Groningen. Weert was better in second period 26-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Weert to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Groningen players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. The game was dominated by American players. The winners were led by guard Jason Dourisseau (196-83, college: Nebraska) who scored that evening 15 points and 4 assists and forward Jamal Boykin (203-87, college: California) supported him with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Groningen's coach Ivica Skelin felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds by center Antwan Carter (198, college: Longwood, agency: Court Side) did not help to save the game for Weert. Guard Bryquis Perine (190-88, college: Green Bay, agency: Court Side) added 27 points for the guests. Groningen have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 16-7 record having just one points less than leader Leiden. Weert at the other side keeps the eighth place with 14 games lost. Groningen's next round opponent will be Leeuwarden (#7) on the road. Weert will play against Rotterdam and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
