Regular Season Round 17: Cantu - Acea Virtus RM 60-65

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both fifth ranked Lottomatica Roma and 4th placed Cantu had identical 11-5 record. But Cantu was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Roma 65-60 on Sunday night. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 37-30 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. International forward Luigi Datome (203-87) stepped up and scored 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and American-Nigerian power forward Gani Lawal (205-88, college: Georgia Tech) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. Four Lottomatica Roma players scored in double figures. Belgian point guard Jonathan Tabu (190-85) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists and the former international Pietro Aradori (195-88) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. Cantu's coach Andrea Trinchieri rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Lottomatica Roma (12-5) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Montepaschi. Cantu at the other side dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Lottomatica Roma will face Trenkwalder RE (#9) in Reggio Emilia in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Cantu will play at home against the league's second-placed Banco di Sard. (#2) in Sassari.
