Regular Season Round 26: Waterloo - Brock 54-76
Date: January 30, 2013
Bottom-ranked Waterloo (0-16) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 76-54 loss to second ranked Brock (15-1) in Waterloo on Wednesday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 76-54. Brock dominated on the defensive end, holding Waterloo to just 5 points in fourth quarter and to 14 points in second half. Brock forced 34 Waterloo turnovers. Strangely Waterloo outrebounded Brock 41-29 including 30 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was forward Nicole Rosenkranz (185) who scored 16 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Kayla Santilli (178) chipped in 16 points. Forward Gia Spiropoulos (188) produced 18 points and 8 rebounds and forward Mackenzie Lougheed (180) added 10 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Brock maintains second position with 15-1 record having just -2 point less than leader Calgary. Loser Waterloo still closes the standings with 16 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
