Everything went according to plan when second ranked Brasilia (14-4) beat at home 6th ranked Vivo/Franca (11-7) 93-77 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Brasilia. Vivo/Franca was better in fourth quarter 25-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Brasilia shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 54.2 percentage. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Brasilia made 13 blocks. Vivo/Franca was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for international guard Alex Ribeiro (191-80, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 5 blocks. The former international center Paulo Prestes (210-88) helped adding 12 points and 12 rebounds. Four Brasilia players scored in double figures. At the losing side point guard Jeferson Froehlich (193-91) responded with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his ten free throws !!!) and forward Leonardo Meindl (200-93) scored 12 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Brasilia. Defending champion maintains second place with 14-4 record having six points less than leader Flamengo. Loser Vivo/Franca keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. Brasilia will face Uberlandia (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Vivo/Franca will play against SKY/Basquete in Aldeota.
