Regular Season Round 14: Grindavik - Thor Thorl 89-87

Round 14 in Express L. means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Grindavik where host Grindavik (11-3) edged league's leader Thor Thorl (10-4) 89-87 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Thor Thorl. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Grindavik dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Thor Thorl's 44. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Aaron Broussard (195-90, college: Seattle) who had a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds. The former international center Sigurdur Thorsteinsson (204-88) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Grindavik's coach Sverrir Sverrisson used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Benjamin Smith (178-87, college: Jacksonville) produced 26 points and 7 assists and his fellow American import forward David Jackson (201-88, college: Penn St.) added 23 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Thor Thorl at the other side dropped to the second place with four games lost. They share the position with Snaefell. They were replaced at the leadership position by Grindavik. Thor Thorl will play next round against strong Stjarnan trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Grindavik will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Njardvik in Njardvik.
