There was no surprise in Kamloops where 6th ranked Trinity Western (5-12) was defeated by third ranked Thompson Rivers (12-5) 81-72 on Thursday. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 42-32 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Thompson Rivers made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was center Diane Schuetze (191) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists. Guard Jorri Duxbury (170) chipped in 14 points and 6 assists. Four Thompson Rivers players scored in double figures. Forward Holly Strom (180) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Emily Knauff (180-87) added 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Thompson Rivers maintains third position with 12-5 record behind leader Calgary. Loser Trinity Western keeps the sixth place with 12 games lost. Thompson Rivers will face again Trinity Western (#8) in Langley in the next round where they are favorite.
