Regular Season Round 30: Foshan LL - Shanghai S. 118-112
Date: February 1, 2013
Very predictable result when eleventh ranked Foshan (12-16) defeated at home bottom-ranked Shanghai Sharks (8-21) 118-112. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Shanghai Sharks were tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Foshan shot 37 for 57 from the free-throw line, while Shanghai Sharks only scored sixteen points from the stripe. They outrebounded Shanghai Sharks 59-47 including a 22-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. Shanghai Sharks were plagued by 41 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Shavlik Randolph (208-83, college: Duke) notched a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 25 rebounds to lead the effort and Syrian guard Michel Maadanly (194-81) supported him with 29 points and 7 rebounds. Even a double-double of 27 points and 11 rebounds by American forward D.J. White (206-86, college: Indiana) did not help to save the game for Shanghai Sharks. His fellow American import guard Gilbert Arenas (192-82, college: Arizona) added 21 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Shanghai Sharks' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Foshan maintains eleventh position with 12-16 record. Shanghai Sharks lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 21 games lost. Foshan will play against Jilin Tigers (#15) in Changchun in the next round. Shanghai Sharks will play on the road against Bayi Rockets in Ningbo and hope to get back on the winning track.
