Very predictable result when second ranked San Martino (16-3) won against 8th ranked Alghero (9-10) in San Martino di L 59-53 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Alghero was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. San Martino forced 20 Alghero turnovers. Quite impressive performance for the former international power forward Martina Sandri (185-88) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Maria Pegoraro (174-89) contributed with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Naturalized Argentinian forward Alejandra Chesta (187-82, agency: Players Group) answered with 19 points and guard Sara Giari (174-92) added 7 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Alghero. San Martino maintains second place in North with 16-3 record having just two points less than leader Umana Reyer. Alghero lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the seventh position with ten games lost. San Martino will face Valmadrera (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Alghero will play against Biassono (#14).
