There was no surprise in Vancouver, BC where 7th ranked Mount Royal (3-15) was outplayed by first ranked Thunderbirds (16-2) 95-68 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Thunderbirds. Mount Royal was better in fourth quarter 28-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Mount Royal to just 6 points in first quarter. Thunderbirds forced 21 Mount Royal turnovers. Mount Royal was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Tommy Nixon (198) stepped up and scored 14 points for the winners and American forward Brylle Kamen (201, college: San Jose St.) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds. Five Thunderbirds players scored in double figures. Guard Jalen Gardener (188) responded with 9 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Nick Loewen (196) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Thunderbirds have an impressive series of eleven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 16-2 record. Loser Mount Royal dropped to the eighth position with 15 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
