Regular Season Round 29: St.Francis X. - UPEI 92-80

There was a small surprise in Antigonish, NS where fifth ranked X-Men (7-7) won against 3rd placed Panthers (8-6) 92-80 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by X-Men. Panthers was better in fourth quarter 31-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Panthers 41-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. X-Men looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Panthers' players. Forward Jeremy Dunn (196) stepped up and scored 21 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and Australian forward Shane Coupland (196-89) chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds. Five X-Men players scored in double figures. X-Men's coach Steve Konchalski used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Deontay Smith responded with 27 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and guard Joe Kendrick (193-85) scored 14 points. X-Men moved-up to fourth place. Panthers lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the third position with six games lost. X-Men will face league's second-placed Axemen in Wolfville, NS in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
