Regular Season Round 29: Guelph - Lakehead 66-79

Everything went according to plan in Guelph, ON where second ranked Thunderwolves (12-5) beat 5th ranked Gryphons (5-12) 79-66 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Thunderwolves. Gryphons was better in third quarter 20-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Gryphons 33-16 including a 23-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. Center Ryan Thomson (201-90) stepped up and scored 22 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and naturalized Egyptian forward Yoosrie Salhia (198-87) chipped in 10 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Ahmed Haroon (196) responded with 19 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) and forward Daniel McCarthy (190) scored 17 points. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Thunderwolves have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain second place with 12-5 record having just one points less than leader UBC. Gryphons lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 12 games lost. Thunderwolves will have a break next round. Gryphons will play on the road against Marauders (#3) in Hamilton, ON and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
