Regular Season Round 18: Villeneuve - Lyon 74-61

Date: February 2, 2013
An interesting game took place in Villeneuve where higher ranked Lyon (11-7) was upset on the court of eleventh ranked Villeneuve D'Ascq (7-11) 74-61 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lyon. Nigerian center Olayinka Sanni (188-86, college: W.Virginia, agency: Josep and Nicolas) had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Belgian center Emma Meesseman (192-93, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward Danielle Page (188-86, college: Nebraska) with 16 points and 5 rebounds and her fellow American import center Mistie Mims (191-83, college: Duke) scored 10 points and 8 rebounds. Five Villeneuve D'Ascq and four Lyon players scored in double figures. Lyon's coach Laurent Buffard rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Villeneuve D'Ascq moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Lyon keeps the fourth position with seven games lost. Villeneuve D'Ascq will face higher ranked Basket Landes (#6) in Mont de Marsan in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Lyon will play on the road against the league's second-placed Bourges where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
