Regular Season Round 31: Bayi R. - Shanghai S. 73-79

Bottom-ranked Shanghai Sharks managed to get a ninth victory, breaking the series of five consecutive loses. This time they won against tenth-ranked Bayi Rockets in Ningbo 79-73. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Bayi Rockets. Bayi Rockets were tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Shanghai Sharks dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Bayi Rockets' 36. They outrebounded Bayi Rockets 56-38 including a 42-29 advantage in defensive rebounds. Shanghai Sharks brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward D.J. White (206-86, college: Indiana) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds. The former international center ZhaoXu Zhang (221-87, college: California) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winners. The former international center ZhiZhi Wang (215-77) answered with 18 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) and forward Shunan Liu (198-90) added 18 points in the effort for Bayi Rockets. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Shanghai Sharks (9-21) moved-up to sixteenth place. Bayi Rockets at the other side keep the tenth position with 16 games lost. They share it with Foshan LL. Shanghai Sharks will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Bayi Rockets will play at home against Jilin Tigers (#15) in Changchun and hope to get back on the winning track.
