Regular Season Round 15: Toyota Alvark - Tochigi Brex 89-60
Date: February 9, 2013
Rather predictable result in Tokyo where second ranked Toyota Alvark (23-7) smashed 6th ranked Tochigi Brex (9-21) 89-60 on Saturday. The game without a history. Toyota Alvark led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Tochigi Brex to just 6 points in second quarter. Toyota Alvark made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Toyota Alvark had a 31-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Toyota Alvark especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. It was a great evening for American forward Philip Ricci (202-80, college: Oregon St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 30 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) helped adding 14 points and 4 steals. Four Toyota Alvark players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Nigerian-British center Olumide Oyedeji (210-81) with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds and the former international guard Takuya Kawamura (193-86) scored 22 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains second place with 23-7 record having just two points less than leader Aishin SH. Loser Tochigi Brex keeps the sixth position with 21 games lost. Toyota Alvark will face Mitsubishi Dolphins (#7) in Nagoya in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Tochigi Brex will play on the road against Toshiba Thunders in Kanagawa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
