Second Stage Round 2: Kavala - Levski Sofia 73-77

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Greek Kavala (3-3) at the home court on Wednesday night. Hosts were defeated by Bulgarian Levski Sofia (4-2) 77-73. It was a key game for the top position in Group C as both teams had the same 3-2 record before this meeting. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-14. But Kavala won second period 17-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Chavdar Kostov (195-88, agency: Interperformances) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points. Forward Dimitar Dimitrov (203-93, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Kavala's coach Angelos Koronios tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Levski Sofia keeps a position of Group C leader. Kavala at the other side dropped to the fourth place with three games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Levski Sofia are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Teodo Tivat (#6) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Kavala will play against Galil Gilboa in Rosh Pina and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
