Regular Season Round 23: Pinheiros/Sky - Paulistano 88-86

The most exciting game of round 23 in the NBB took place in Sao Paolo. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 7th ranked Paulistano (12-10) to sixth ranked Pinheiros (13-6) 88-86 in the game for the sixth place. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Paulistano. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Paulistano won third quarter 22-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Pinheiros won last quarter 22-21. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Pinheiros made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for American Joe Smith (192-77, college: Al.-Huntsville) who led his team to a victory scoring 27 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Fernando Penna (189-83) helped adding 19 points and 5 rebounds. Four Pinheiros players scored in double figures. Power forward Renato Carbonari (204-87) responded with 26 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and international guard Elinho Corazza (193-89, college: Miami Dade CC) scored 9 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. Pinheiros maintains sixth place with 13-6 record. Paulistano at the other side keeps the seventh position with ten games lost. They share it with Minas. Pinheiros are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Suzano (#18) in Sao Paulo in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Paulistano will have a break next round.
