The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Thunderbirds (18-3) in Vancouver, BC. Hosts were defeated by Vikies (15-6) 91-86. It ended at the same time the 13-game winning streak of Thunderbirds. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 14-6 record before this meeting. The guests were already 14 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 32-23 Thunderbirds' run in the last quarter cut the lead to 91-86 at the end of the game. Thunderbirds were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Michael Acheampong who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 5 rebounds. Center Chris McLaughlin (208) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Vikies' coach Craig Beaucamp allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Doug Plumb (193, college: Minnesota St.) replied with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and forward Tommy Nixon (198) added 23 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Thunderbirds. Four Thunderbirds players scored in double figures. Vikies keep a position of league leader, which they share with Saskatchewan. Thunderbirds at the other side still keep top place with three games lost. Vikies will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Thunderbirds will play again on the road against the league's second-placed Vikies in Victoria, BC and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
