Regular Season Round 17: Olympiakos - Panionios 77-50

Another exciting game was again a derby between two local teams from Athens: Olympiakos (#10) and Panionios (#11). Olympiakos (5-12) crushed visiting Panionios (2-15) by 27 points 77-50. Olympiakos dominated on the defensive end, holding Panionios to just 7 points in third quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Panionios' 28. Olympiakos forced 26 Panionios turnovers. The former international forward Niki Zerva (183-79) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds. Dimitra Chavale contributed with 22 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Olympiakos players scored in double figures. Olympiakos' coach felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Zafiria Giabani (185-92) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and guard Tonia Danousi (178-90) added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Panionios. Newly promoted Olympiakos maintains tenth place with 5-12 record. Panionios lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the eleventh position with 15 games lost. Olympiakos will face higher ranked Ikaros Kalitheas (#6) in Glyfada in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Panionios' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Panathinaikos.
