Rather expected game when 5th ranked X-Men (7-11) lost to third ranked Panthers (11-7) in Charlottetown, PEI 78-88 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Panthers. X-Men was better in second period 21-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Panthers made 8 blocks. Forward Geoff Doane (196) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Deontay Smith contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 7 rebounds and 13 assists for the winners. Forward Jeremy Dunn (196) answered with 27 points and 9 rebounds and Dominican center Rodrigo Madera (208-90) added 13 points and 14 rebounds in the effort for X-Men. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Panthers maintains third place with 11-7 record having eight points less than leader UBC. X-Men lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 11 games lost. Panthers will have a break next round. X-Men will play at home against Tigers (#4) in Halifax, NS and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
