Regular Season Round 24: Limeira - Mogi das Cruzes 71-79

There was a small surprise when fourteenth ranked Mogi (8-14) defeated on the road 12th ranked Winner/Limeira (9-13) 79-71 on Saturday. Winner/Limeira trailed by 15 points at halftime and as many as 22 after three quarters before a 29-15 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 71-79 at the end of the game. Mogi made 34-of-43 free shots (79.1 percent) during the game, while Winner/Limeira only scored fourteen points from the stripe. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Mogi made 7 blocks. Winner/Limeira was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was the former international center Babby Araujo (211-80, college: BYU) who scored 17 points and 7 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Power forward Thomas Gehrke (203-82, college: UTEP) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Omar Carter (195-88, college: Appalachian St.) who recorded 21 points and center Daniel Castellar (202-83) added 5 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mogi moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Joinville. Winner/Limeira lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with 13 games lost. Mogi will face bottom-ranked Suzano (#18) in Sao Paulo in the next round where they are favorite.
