There was an upset when higher ranked Udine (12-9) was defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Virtus Cagliari (7-14) 53-43 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Virtus Cagliari. Udine was better in third quarter 12-7. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Virtus Cagliari forced 31 Udine turnovers. Power forward Giulia Rulli (185-91) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and naturalized Argentinian guard Laura Nicolini (174-75) chipped in 15 points and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was guard Debora Vicenzotti (181-89) with 23 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) and point guard Federica Pozzecco (170-93) scored 9 points. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Virtus Cagliari. They moved-up to eleventh place in North. Loser Udine keeps the fifth position with nine games lost. Virtus Cagliari will face league's leader Umana Reyer in Venezia in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Udine will play at home against the league's second-placed San Martino (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
