Regular Season Round 35: Toyama Grouses - Chiba Jets 72-81

There was a small surprise when sixth ranked Chiba Jets (18-13) beat on the road 4th placed Toyama Grouses (21-12) 81-72 on Saturday. Chiba Jets dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Toyama Grouses' 44. They outrebounded Toyama Grouses 42-31 including 29 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American center Joe Werner (201-84, college: Wisc.-La Cros.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds. His fellow American import power forward Marquis Gray (206-86, college: Michigan St.) helped adding 23 points and 15 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). American forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga, agency: SDJ Sports) responded with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Takeshi Mito (184-85) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. Five Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. Chiba Jets moved-up to fifth place. Loser Toyama Grouses keep the fourth position with 12 games lost. Chiba Jets will have a break next round. Toyama Grouses will play again at home against Chiba Jets (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
