Regular Season Round 17: IR - Stjarnan 88-100

Very predictable result in Reykjavik where sixth ranked Stjarnan (10-7) beat bottom-ranked IR (4-13) 100-88. The game was mostly controlled by Stjarnan. IR was better in fourth quarter 26-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded IR 44-26 including 29 on the defensive glass. Stjarnan shot the lights out from three nailing 15 long-distance shots on high 57.7 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Naturalized FYR Macedonian forward Jovan Zdravevski (197-80) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds. Naturalized American guard Justin Shouse (180-81, college: Mercyhurst) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners. Four Stjarnan players scored in double figures. American guard Eric Palm (188-87, college: McKendree) answered with 33 points (!!!) and 4 assists (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!) and forward Hjalti Fridriksson (201-89) added 13 points in the effort for IR. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Stjarnan moved-up to fifth place. IR at the other side stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. They share it with Fjolnir. Stjarnan will play against league's leader Grindavik at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. IR's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Reykjavik to the arena KR.
