There was a small surprise when eleventh ranked Saitama Broncos (7-27) defeated on the road 8th ranked Sendai 89ers (13-21) 89-84 on Friday. The guests trailed by 170 points after three quarters before their 25-20 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Sendai 89ers outrebounded Saitama Broncos 46-30 including 16 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Quite impressive performance for guard Yuki Kitamuki (184-85) who helped to win the game recording 30 points and 9 assists. American swingman John Humphrey (188-80, college: Middle Tenn.St., agency: Court Side) contributed with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. American forward T.J. Cummings (205-81, college: UCLA, agency: Top Notch Sports) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists and the other American import forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific) added 21 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) in the effort for Sendai 89ers. Five Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. Saitama Broncos have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain eleventh place with 7-27 record. Loser Sendai 89ers keep the eighth position with 21 games lost. Saitama Broncos will have a break next round.
