Regular Season Round 37: Hamamatsu P. - Okinawa GK 84-87

The most exciting game of round 37 in the BJ League took place in Mikawa. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 4th placed Hamamatsu Phoenix (23-14) to first ranked Okinawa GK (25-8) 87-84 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hamamatsu Phoenix. Okinawa GK looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. American players dominated the game. Worth to mention a great performance of center Jeff Newton (205-81, college: Indiana) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 13 points and 19 rebounds. Anthony McHenry (202-83, college: Georgia Tech) contributed with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Five Okinawa GK players scored in double figures. Guard Wendell White (198-84, college: UNLV, agency: Top Notch Sports) answered with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Kevin Galloway (200-88, college: Texas Southern, agency: Top Notch Sports) added 13 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Hamamatsu Phoenix. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Okinawa GK maintains first place with 25-8 record. Hamamatsu Phoenix at the other side keeps the fourth position with 14 games lost. Okinawa GK will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Hamamatsu Phoenix will play again at home against the league's leader Okinawa GK (#1) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
