Rather expected game when 8th ranked Hokkaido L. (4-30) was smashed by sixth ranked Tochigi Brex (10-24) in Saporro 91-71 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Tochigi Brex. Hokkaido L. was better in third quarter 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Hokkaido L. 31-20 including 25 on the defensive glass. Tochigi Brex looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international guard Takuya Kawamura (193-86) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. American power forward Tyler Smith (203-80, college: Penn St.) contributed with 14 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. International guard Ryota Sakurai (194-83) answered with 13 points and 4 assists and the former international guard Takehiko Orimo (190-70) added 14 points in the effort for Hokkaido L.Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Tochigi Brex maintains sixth place with 10-24 record. Loser Hokkaido L. stay dead last with 30 lost games. Tochigi Brex will face higher ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (#5) in Tokyo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hokkaido L. will play on the road against Mitsubishi Dolphins in Nagoya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
