Regular Season Round 17: Aishin SH - Toshiba BT 73-68

An interesting game for Aishin Sea Horses (27-7) which hosted in Kariya 3rd placed Toshiba Thunders (21-13). First ranked Aishin Sea Horses managed to get a 5-point victory 73-68. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Toshiba Thunders. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-14. But Toshiba Thunders won second period 20-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Aishin Sea Horses won last quarter 20-17. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists. The former international point guard Shinsuke Kashiwagi (183-81) chipped in 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) produced a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Ryusei Shinoyama (178-88) added 5 points respectively for the guests. Toshiba Thunders' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Aishin Sea Horses maintains first place with 27-7 record, which they share with Toyota Alvark. Toshiba Thunders at the other side keep the third position with 13 games lost. Aishin Sea Horses' next round opponent will be league's second-placed Toyota Alvark in Tokyo and it will be for sure the game of the week. Toshiba Thunders will play at home against Panasonic Trians in Osaka and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
