Regular Season Round 18: Elizur Ashkelon - Hapoel J-M 66-76

Date: February 25, 2013
Very predictable result when third ranked Hapoel Jerusalem (11-7) defeated on the road bottom-ranked Ironi Ashkelon (5-13) 76-66. Ironi Ashkelon was ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 30-19 second half run of Hapoel Jerusalem. Hapoel Jerusalem had a 34-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. Americans were the main players on the court also this time. Forward Craig Smith (201-83, college: Boston Coll.) notched 16 points and 7 rebounds to lead the effort and Josh Duncan (203-86) supported him with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Even a double-double of 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists by swingman Julien Mills (193-85, college: Ball St.) did not help to save the game for Ironi Ashkelon. Swingman Jarvis Hayes (201-81, college: Georgia, agency: David Lee services) added 19 points. Four Ironi Ashkelon players scored in double figures. Hapoel Jerusalem have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Maccabi Haifa and Hapoel Eilat. Ironi Ashkelon lost seventh consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Hapoel Jerusalem will play against Maccabi Rishon (#6) in Rishon Le-Zion in the next round. Ironi Ashkelon will play at home against Hapoel Holon (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
