There was a minor upset when 6th ranked Chiba Jets (18-17) were defeated on the road by ninth ranked Tokyo Cinq R. (14-22) 91-78 on Saturday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Tokyo Cinq R.'s pressure prevailed and they won that period 23-16 extending their advantage to 13 points. Tokyo Cinq R. outrebounded Chiba Jets 47-34 including 16 on the offensive glass. American players dominated the game. The best player for the winners was center Jonathan Jones (211-79, agency: TSS Management) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 13 rebounds. Swingman Ricky Woods (194-84, college: SE Louisiana) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Four Tokyo Cinq R. players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Marquin Chandler (202-82, college: San Jose St.) who recorded a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and center Joe Werner (201-84, college: Wisc.-La Cros.) added 17 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Tokyo Cinq R. moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Sendai 89ers. Chiba Jets lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the sixth position with 17 games lost. Tokyo Cinq R. will face again higher ranked Chiba Jets (#6) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
