Regular Season Round 24: Quimper - Vichy 77-80

The most exciting game of round 24 in the NM1 took place in Quimper. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 5th ranked Quimper UJAP (14-7) to first ranked JA Vichy (17-5) 80-77 on Saturday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Quimper UJAP won fourth quarter 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. JA Vichy dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Quimper UJAP's 30. The best player for the winners was point guard Benjamin Thomas (181-82) who scored 21 points and 6 assists. Octavio Da Silveira (204-89) chipped in 15 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). JA Vichy's coach Fabien Romeyer used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was Spanish point guard Carlos Cherry (184-79, agency: Global Sports Plaza) who recorded 19 points and 9 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and swingman Florian Thibedore (193-90) added 17 points respectively. JA Vichy maintains first position with 17-5 record. Quimper UJAP at the other side dropped to the fourth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Cognac. JA Vichy are looking forward to face league's second-placed Orchesien BC in Orchies in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Quimper UJAP will play on the road against Rueil and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
