Regular Season Round 39: Oita H.Devils - Niigata Albirex 86-78

Top ranked Niigata Albirex (26-11) recorded its eleventh loss on the court of eighth ranked Oita Heat Devils on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Oita Heat Devils 86-78. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Niigata Albirex won fourth quarter 28-27. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was guard Taishiro Shimizu (183-81) who scored 28 points and 8 assists. American guard Verdell Jones III (195-89, college: Indiana, agency: Edge Sports) chipped in 26 points and 5 rebounds (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). Oita Heat Devils' coach Yukinori Suzuki used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Chris Holm (212-84, college: Vermont, agency: Top Notch Sports) who recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points, 20 rebounds and 4 assists and Yuichi Ikeda (192-83) added 22 points respectively. Four Niigata Albirex players scored in double figures. Oita Heat Devils maintains eighth place with 12-25 record. Niigata Albirex at the other side still keeps top position with 11 games lost. They share it with Shimane SM. Oita Heat Devils are again looking forward to face league's leader Niigata Albirex at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Niigata Albirex will have a break next round.
