Regular Season Round 21: Perpignan - Charleville 73-59

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Charleville-Mezieres (8-13) was defeated on the road by third ranked Perpignan (14-7) 73-59 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Perpignan. Charleville-Mezieres was better in third quarter 15-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Perpignan had a 28-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Perpignan made 7 blocks. Center Helena Ciak (197-89) stepped up and scored 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and American swingman Angie Bjorklund (183-89, college: Tennessee) chipped in 9 points and 6 rebounds. Perpignan's coach Francois Gomez used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was the former international power forward Aurelie Bonnan (187-83, agency: Josep and Nicolas) with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Amel Bouderra (160-89) scored 16 points. Newly promoted Perpignan maintains third place with 14-7 record having four points less than leader Lattes Montp. Charleville-Mezieres at the other side dropped to the eleventh position with 13 games lost. Perpignan will face Arras (#13) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Charleville-Mezieres will play against Toulouse and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
