Regular Season Round 20: Athinaikos - Aris 86-61
Date: March 9, 2013
No shocking result in a game when third ranked Athinaikos (17-3) crushed 6th ranked Aris (11-9) in Athens 86-61 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Athinaikos. Aris managed to win second period 18-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The winners were led by the former international power forward Afroditi Kosma (187-83) who scored that evening 17 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Zoi Kechagia (170-79) supported her with 20 points (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Even 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists by guard Roula Mouli (178-85) did not help to save the game for Aris. Bosnian center Aleksandra Begenisic (193-89) added 15 points and 9 rebounds for the guests. Four Aris players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Athinaikos have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with AO Ellinikou. Loser Aris dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. They share it with Ikaros Kalitheas. Athinaikos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Asteras.
